LIVED PERFORMANCE OR JUST "PERFORMANCE"?

THE CADENCE REALISM™ MANIFESTO

THE CADENCE REALISM™ MANIFESTO

A Public Declaration of Behaviour, Pressure and Earned Change

By Leon Gordon

Founder and Originator of Cadence Realism™

This Cadence Realism manifesto articulates our commitment to a behavioural performance methodology where everything must be earned. In this framework, we focus on the importance of genuine effort and accountability in driving meaningful change.

A PUBLIC DECLARATION

Cadence Realism™ is an innovative behavioural performance methodology created by Leon Gordon. This approach originated from a determination to understand the underlying factors that enable truthful behavior, rather than simply accepting performance results at face value.

The Cadence Realism manifesto outlines the core philosophy and fundamental principles of performance associated with this methodology. However, it does not reveal the entire training system, practitioner architecture, or the assessment methodology, emphasizing the notion that Everything Must Be Earned.

THE RESULT WAS BEING ASKED FOR BEFORE THE CAUSE EXISTED.

Through years of teaching actors and developing performance training principles, along with directing and engaging in various productions, I consistently faced a significant challenge. Actors were often required to express emotions such as anger, vulnerability, intensity, and movement before the essential conditions that would genuinely elicit those responses were properly established.

While the outcomes were sometimes impressive or emotionally resonant, and occasionally even successful, these results did not always signify truthful behavior.

This realization ignited my curiosity about what precedes the result: what influences an individual's decisions to speak, pause, attack, withdraw, or adapt in response to changing circumstances. This inquiry ultimately led to the development of Cadence Realism™, a behavioural performance methodology that emphasizes these critical aspects. The Cadence Realism manifesto embodies the principle that 'Everything Must Be Earned.'

AT ITS CENTRE IS ONE GOVERNING PRINCIPLE:

The concept of EVERYTHING MUST BE EARNED™ transcends being just a slogan about effort or deservingness; it emphasizes the need for a truthful cause rooted in behavioural performance methodology. The actions, emotions, movements, silence, and changes observed must be consistent with the actual living conditions, as outlined in performance training principles, akin to the insights derived from Cadence Realism. This philosophy is further articulated in the Cadence Realism manifesto, which aligns closely with the ideas of Leon Gordon.
